How to Buy a Car in Installments in Egypt: Bank or Finance Company?
A practical guide to car installments in Egypt: banks versus finance companies, the papers you need, and how to work out the real cost before you sign.

Installments let you drive the car now and pay over months, but the lowest monthly payment isn't always the cheapest deal. This guide explains your options and what to ask before you sign anything.
Terms and rates vary between lenders and change over time, so we don't quote fixed figures here. Always get the numbers in writing from the lender itself.
Bank or finance company?
Bank: usually suits you if you have a steady income you can prove. It can take longer, and its conditions on the car's model and age may be stricter.
Finance company: often faster and more flexible, and some focus on the used car market. Compare the full cost, not only the speed of approval.
Through the showroom: many showrooms work with banks and finance companies and prepare the application for you. It's convenient, but ask who the actual lender is and get their terms in writing.
New or used?
Installments are available for both, but the terms for used cars differ. Some lenders set a maximum age for the car and may ask for a valuation from an approved center. If you're considering a used car, ask about this before you agree on a specific one.
The papers you'll usually need
The lender decides the final list, but have these ready:
A valid national ID.
Proof of income, such as a salary statement or employer letter, or your business papers if you're self-employed.
A bank statement if the lender asks for one.
A recent utility bill as proof of address.
A price quote for the car, plus a valuation if it's used.
Work out the real cost
Don't look at the monthly payment alone. Before you agree, work out this number:
Down payment + (monthly payment × number of months) + fees and insurance = full cost
Subtract the car's cash price and you'll see what the installments really cost you. Compare two or three offers this way, because a lower payment can mean a longer term and more money overall.
What to ask before you sign
What's the total I'll pay, with all fees?
Is the rate fixed or variable?
Who pays for comprehensive insurance, and is it included in the installment?
Is there a penalty for paying off early?
What happens if I'm late with a payment?
Will a sale ban be registered on the licence until I finish paying?
Before you take the car
If the car is used, inspect it first with our used car inspection checklist. After you agree, check the steps for transferring ownership: if the car has old installments or a sale ban, it can't move to your name until that's lifted.
